The program automatically replaces each small area in the image with a text character. Here I use Chinese characters, and the program randomly selects them from a list that I picked (manually) .

For the time being, the program uses the mouse cursor to control how fine the characters divide the image (That was want happened in the videos, in which the cursor moved from left to right while the division of images became more coarse, and vice versa.

The program accepts any other image file. For the text characters, it accepts true type font file (.ttf), so it can display characters from other languages such as English, Japanese...etc, as well as other fonts or text.

Below are the results of apply it to various images, with the video showing what looks like when moving the cursor to change the level of details of how fine the text characters are.

I have also applied this to movie frames to instantly convert the video images. The result can be seen in Text Video.

Below is based on an internet image of a photo by Alberto García-Alix. His photo portraits are so powerful and piercing. The range of grey tones and sharp silhouette are so suitable for this demo purpose. No in any sense try to diminish or mis-interpret his work, this is just for demo purpose.

Courtesy of Mr. Alberto García Alix for use of his photographic image.
